Call for Applications: AAD 2025 – ANIMATION! ACTING!! DRAMA!!!
Following last year’s success, the Innovation Lab: ANIMATION! ACTING!! DRAMA!!! (AAD) is back – and this time, we’re heading to Paris!
This August, animation students and young professionals from PANEURAMA partners are invited to join us at Université Paris 8/Campus Condorcet for ten immersive days of experimentation, collaboration, and high-level acting in animation.
We are thrilled to announce that Daniel Callaby, a renowned animator and mentor, will be joining us this year. With over 15 years of experience in character animation, previs creation, and mocap integration, Daniel has worked on notable projects such as Arcane, Despicable Me, and Sing. His expertise in creating realistic drama with human characters through animation will be invaluable to our participants.
This lab is for you if you’re looking to expand your methods of creating realistic drama with human characters through animation, and if you’re eager to explore new ways of thinking about movement, intention, emotion, and performance.
We’re pushing the boundaries of what acting in animation can be – and we want curious, committed animators to join the journey.

We evaluate our applicants based on their profile, talent, whether they fit into the overall team we can composite from the applicants, as well as their educational background. Additionally, we highly value motivation and dedication – the strive to learn and improve.
We will soon release the schedule for the Animation! Acting!! Drama!!! Innovation Lab, running from August 18 – 29th in Paris, France. This program will include the overview of the supervisor(s), the planned daily tasks and structure, as well as social activities to help you relax, connect, and have fun.
Animation Supervisor: Daniel Callaby
With over 15 years in character animation, supervision and production, 2D FX animation, previs creation, mocap integration, and more, we’re happy to announce we’ll be working together with Daniel for the Innovation Lab: Animation! Acting!! Drama!!!
Daniel will bring his A-game and build a 2-week intensive schedule for young talent and professionals to dive deep into the pit of ambition called: “Realistic, Dramatic, Animation”!

Applicants need to know how to use and animate in Maya.
During the sign-up process, the participant must upload a demo reel and fill out the online application form
To maximize your chances of being selected, the demo reel you submit should demonstrate a good understanding of body mechanics and a sensibility for naturalistic animation and acting.
Make sure the demo-reel contains at least 4 shots (with a minimum duration of 40 seconds) that show both body mechanics and acting. You must have at least one acting shot with lip sync in your demo.
The workshop is free of charge.
The PANEURAMA project will also cover travel and accommodation for the selected participants, so they can fully focus on the new learning experience.
The Innovation Lab takes place on the Campus Condorcet in Paris, France, hosted by Université Paris 8.
